The compressor in an outdoor central air condensor can fail for a variety of reasons. These instructions will guide you in the neccesary steps to pinpoint your problem. Once you have narrowed down the problem, you can choose between fixing the compressor or replacing it. CAUTION- Air conditioners have 220 volt potential even when not running! Do not attempt if you do not have eletrical experience and basic safety knowledge.

  We should remove the top and examine the wiring leading from the contactor, through the capacitor and to the compressor. Remove the compressor wiring cover by either prying the holding metal bar or squeezing the plastic tabs on the sides. Replace any burned or melted wiring on the three contawcts. If the contacts themselves have been damaged so that you cannot replace the wire ends, a repair kit is available at your local wholesaler.
